Raj Kanwar’s Jeet, which brought together Sunny Deol, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu and Amrish Puri, completed 30 years on August 23, 2026. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the 1996 action drama remains associated with its ensemble cast, popular music and its long theatrical run.
Jeet turns 30: Sunny Deol revisits his character ‘Karan’; recalls Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor starrer as a career-defining film
On the occasion of the film’s 30th anniversary, Sunny Deol revisited Jeet and his character Karan through a social media post. Sharing glimpses from the film, the actor wrote, “30 years of Jeet. Karan, his love, his anger, his sacrifice — a character that still lives in my heart. Thank you for all the love you have given this film for 30 years.”
Released in 1996, Jeet brought Sunny Deol and Salman Khan together at a time when the two actors represented distinct screen personas. Their contrasting characters, along with Karisma Kapoor’s role, formed the central dynamic of the film. Tabu and Amrish Puri were also part of the cast.
The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing releases of 1996 and reportedly completed a 75-week theatrical run. Sajid Nadiadwala has also looked back at the film’s theatrical milestone over the years, sharing memories of its extended run.
Music formed another significant part of Jeet’s legacy. Composed by Nadeem-Shravan, the soundtrack featured songs such as ‘Yaara O Yaara’, ‘Tu Dharti Pe Chaahe’, ‘Saanson Ka Chalna’ and ‘Dil Ka Kya Karein Saheb’. Several of the songs continue to be associated with the film and its 1990s setting.
Beyond the film itself, Jeet also became the beginning of a friendship between Sunny Deol and Salman Khan. For producer Sajid Nadiadwala, the film marked an early collaboration with Salman Khan. The two subsequently worked together on projects including Judwaa, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
For Sunny Deol, however, the 30th anniversary has brought the focus back to Karan and the emotional journey of the character. His tribute highlights the lasting connection he has with the role and the film.
Three decades after its release, Jeet continues to be remembered for its star cast, music and place in 1990s Hindi cinema, with the anniversary providing an opportunity for the team and audiences to revisit its legacy.
