A 26-year-old man was arrested after another man was stabbed to death in a Wellesley park Thursday night, prosecutors announced.

Just before 6 p.m., Wellesley police responded to Phillips Park at 11 Maugus Avenue for a 911 call, the office of Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a press release Thursday night.

Officers found a 58-year-old man with an apparent stab wound, the DA wrote. He was brought to Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Morrissey’s office said.

Following an initial investigation, police arrested 26-year-old James Floyd Bennett III of Wellesley, the DA said. He is expected to be arraigned Friday morning in Dedham District Court.

The DA did not publicly identify the victim or say what charges Bennett is facing. Attorney information for Bennett was not available Thursday night.

State Police and Wellesley police are both investigating, the DA said.

“The investigation is active and ongoing. Based on preliminary information, there is no cause for the public to be alarmed for their own safety,” Morrissey’s office wrote.
