There’s something quite romantic about tour playlists. These are songs that become attached to places you’ve barely seen and cities you only remember because someone took a blurry photo outside the venue.
For Australian band Royel Otis – the duo are somewhere in the middle of exactly that. Between European tour dates, they pit-stopped in Paris for the CELINE show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, presumably swapping out their t-shirts and jeans for some of Michael Rider’s tailoring, perhaps paired with a pair of the brand’s instantly covetable sneakers, made in collaboration with Reebok. For the day, they played in fashion week’s front row alongside Kim Taehyung, Oscar Isaac and Finn Wolfhard, then got straight back to doing what touring bands do best: chasing the next city.
This is what’s was coming through the speakers in the meantime.
While in Paris, the duo curated for RUSSH a playlist of the songs rattling around their brain-space right now – whether it was a soul classic or a dream pop hit – they sit effortlessly between dreamy guitars and fuzzy 90s favourites.
For Roy, these are the tracks that have been giving him goosebumps lately (which feels like a much more useful way of recommending music than insisting something is objectively brilliant. Goosebumps can’t really be argued with.) For Otis, these are the songs queued up on his tour bus playlist of late – from classics by Ms. Lauryn Hill to the latest from Steve Lacy.
Check out their tight edit of the songs they’re loving right now on the RUSSH Spotify, now.
