Peshawar Zalmi Star Creates PSL History With Unique Record

Peshawar Zalmi’s ace spinner Sufiyan Muqeem etched his name into the Pakistan Super League (PSL) history after becoming the first bowler ever to take three or more wickets in five consecutive matches.

The left-arm spinner delivered yet another match-shaping spell for Peshawar Zalmi, picking up 3 wickets for 25 runs in four overs against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium.

His latest victims were Rilee Rossouw, Hasan Nawaz and Khawaja Nafay.

Sufiyan Muqeem has now taken at least three wickets in every Zalmi match he has played in this season, excluding the washed-out game against Islamabad United in Lahore. His remarkable run has also made him the leading wicket-taker of PSL 11 so far, with 16 wickets in just six matches.

The 23rd match of the tournament saw Peshawar Zalmi produce another strong bowling display to keep Quetta Gladiators to a below-par total.

Quetta had a poor start with Ahsan Ali dismissed for 4 in the opening over. Captain Saud Shakeel then tried to steady the innings and added 35 runs with Rilee Rossouw before being run out after scoring 16 off 13 balls.

Rossouw looked dangerous during his 28 off 16 deliveries, striking four boundaries, but Muqeem once again provided the breakthrough when Quetta appeared to be building momentum.

He struck again in the 12th over to remove Shamyl Hussain after his brief 12-run stay and continued to hurt Quetta’s middle order as the innings slipped further.

Hasan Nawaz was the top scorer for Quetta with 37 off 35 balls, including four fours, while Khawaja Nafay made 20 off 13. But both fell as Quetta failed to turn partnerships into a commanding total.

Peshawar’s bowlers kept the pressure on in the final overs and ran through the lower order, allowing Quetta little room for a late recovery. Tom Curran’s 15 off 10 balls offered some resistance, but it was not enough to lift the innings.

While Abdul Basit also claimed three wickets, Muqeem was once again the standout performer because of both his control and ability to strike at key moments.
