Eagles insider’s ‘tea leaves’ read Myles Garrett trade after A.J. Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles might finally trade A.J. Brown soon. Philadelphia can split Brown’s dead cap hit over two seasons if he is traded after 4:01PM ET on Monday. One NFL insider already has a theory on what move Howie Roseman might make next.

Eagles insider Eliot Shorr-Parks put forward a theory that Philly could attempt a Myles Garrett trade after dealing Brown. He presented a few important moves from the offseason to make his argument.

“March 13th: Eagles, Patriots & Rams reportedly talk all day about a trade. It is then reported AJ won’t be traded until June 1st and the Rams drop out,” Shorr-Parks wrote. “Let’s say in theory the Eagles end that day with a good idea of what they are getting back from the Patriots.”

It did not take long for the June 1st portion of a potential Brown trade to become common knowledge.

He also pointed to Garrett’s restructured contract, which makes it easier for another team to acquire him via trade.

“March 25th: Myles Garrett restructures his deal making it easier to trade him after June 1st & makes the new team pay more money than before the restructure,” Shorr-Parks added. “Viewed as a deal that makes him easier to trade.”

Shorr-Parks also noted that both Philadelphia’s cap space after trading Brown, and the cap hit Garrett will bring with himself in a trade, are both $31 million.

That could be a coincidence, or another data point that suggests a Garrett trade could be a possibility.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated did name the Eagles as a possible Myles Garrett suitor on May 27th. That makes Shorr-Parks’ theory a little more believable because it goes beyond simply connecting dots.

Still, the Browns could always decide they do not want to trade Garrett at all.

Ultimately, Eagles fans may want to wait for Brown to be traded before getting too invested in what might happen after that.
