A Witch and Mercenary (Majo to Yohei) TV anime has been announced with a 2027 broadcast start date, teaser visual, and teaser trailer.
The adaptation of the light novel series written by Chohokiteki Kaeru and illustrated by Bench Kanase sees the witch Siasha (Saori Hayami) journeying in search of a place where she can live without being hunted with the mercenary Zig (Taito Ban). Shinpei Ezaki (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song, Gunslinger Stratos) is directing at Eight Bit.

Other staff include Daishiro Tanimura (HELL MODE: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing) as series composer, Keita Matsumoto (Persona 5 The Animation: The Day Breakers co-character designer, Sands of Destruction) as character designer, and Rei Ishizuka (With You and the Rain) as music composer.

The Witch and Mercenary light novel series, which is published under Micro Magazine’s GCN Bunko label/imprint, debuted in 2023 and has seven volumes as of November 2025. Seven Seas Entertainment describes the synopsis as such:
Nothing in this world is more dangerous than a witch. The epitome of fear and terror, they can summon floods on a whim, conjure balls of fire out of the air, or even destroy entire countries overnight. Incur their wrath, and no one is safe.
At least, that’s what everyone thinks, and it’s the very reason they all want Siasha dead. After yet another violent battle for her life, she teams up with Zig, a mercenary, and they depart for unknown lands to find somewhere she can live in peace. But is the pair any match for the lost magic and vicious monstrosities that lie ahead?
The light novels have a Kodansha-published manga adaptation drawn by Makoto Miyagi. The manga is published by Kodansha USA in English as The Witch and the Mercenary and was the U-NEXT Award recipient in the web manga category of Next Manga Awards 2025.
Witch and Mercenary previously started as Shosetsuka ni Naro web novel in 2021.
