Browns HC Todd Monken is high on rookie QB Taylen Green, who is turning heads with his athleticism and work ethic.

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Taylen Green has spent much of the training camp behind Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, but the 23-year-old is beginning to attract attention.

Green made his presence felt during Thursday’s joint practice with the Buffalo Bills. He connected with Tylan Wallace for a touchdown in the corner of the end zone and later scored on a quarterback option, displaying the mobility that made him an intriguing draft prospect.

“That dude is smart as heck. To go out there and function…we hardly give him any reps,” head coach Todd Monken said. “I mean, I love that dude. It’s just hard. You got four guys. It’s hard to get more reps. We got him on the perimeter one time, which is what you gotta do…down there in the red zone. All he does is work, smile on his face…I mean, I’m happy we got him, just hard to fit him in with the rep count.”

The Browns selected Green in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the No. 182 overall pick after he played at Boise State and Arkansas. During his two seasons with the Razorbacks, Green started 24 games and completed 428 of 707 passes for 5,868 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,379 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Green threw for 3,794 yards, 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2022 and 2023. He also rushed for 1,022 yards and 19 touchdowns during that period. At Arkansas, his most productive passing season came in 2024, when he finished with 3,154 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Green entered the NFL with outstanding athletic testing numbers. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound quarterback ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and recorded a 43.5-inch vertical jump.

Cleveland still faces a roster decision because keeping four quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster would require sacrificing depth elsewhere. Green could potentially be waived and targeted for the practice squad, although another team would have the opportunity to claim him.

Sanders is scheduled to start Saturday against the Bills and play the first half, Watson is expected in the third quarter, and Gabriel is slated for the fourth. Green’s best remaining opportunity comes in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots on August 27, which could be important as the Browns make their final roster decisions.
