QB situation gets grim ESPN prediction

The Cleveland Browns may not be very good at the QB position this year, as they got a grim prediction from ESPN.

Oh, those dreary Cleveland Browns quarterbacks, who make a third-stringer look like a good idea. And is the current backup a checkdown king? Furthermore, the QB situation got a grim prediction from ESPN with this most likely outcome.

“Watson opens the season as the starter, the team loses a lot of games, and Sanders takes over at some point,” Dan Graziano wrote. “The Browns finish with one of the worst records in the league. And neither of these guys is in the mix to be their 2027 starter. Armed with two first-round picks, the Browns secure one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. And reset once again at the position, hoping they’ve finally found their long-term answer.”

What about a best-case scenario for the Browns QBs?

Even that isn’t a rosy path.

“Watson struggles early, leading to Sanders taking over,” Graziano wrote. “He plays well and leads the Browns into playoff contention, costing them a chance to pick high in the first round. The Browns go into the 2027 offseason trying to figure out whether Sanders has shown enough to be their long-term starter or whether they need to bring in competition for him. And in the end, they continue to wander the QB wilderness as they have all century.”

Man, that’s a bleak outlook. One thing Graziano didn’t account for is Watson turning things around and having a decent season. Surely that’s not 100% out of the question, is it?

One thing is certain. Watson won’t be embraced by the Browns fans. They see him as a symbol of how the franchise got wrecked. Even though he didn’t make the deal, it was a terrible one, according to NBC Sports.

“It’s obvious why Watson gets booed: Trading for him has proven to be the single worst roster transaction in NFL history,” Michael David Smith wrote.

The Browns traded three first-round picks along with selections in the second, third, and fourth rounds in the Watson deal. Then they gave him an unprecedented five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract.
