The Collar | Write Out Loud

The Collar | Write Out Loud

I drove you to the vet, you sat beside me.

In your closing eyes, love I could still see.

With every mile, I saw your strength fade.

It was the saddest journey, I had ever made.

I drove back from the vets, all on my own.

Tight in my hand, I took your collar home.

I look at your collar now, years have gone by.

And with that look, it’s still hard not to cry.

I pick your collar up, to a tiny ring of a bell.

I miss you to this day, that’s my story to tell.
