SWSC take 58 medals at UAE Athletics Cup

Sharjah Women’s Sports Clubs claimed 58 medals at the UAE Athletics Cup, held from May 8 to 10, after a strong showing across all age groups.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club won the junior, youth and senior cups, while Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club also produced several podium finishes across the competition.

The results continued a strong run for SWSC in domestic athletics, with athletes from both Sharjah and Khorfakkan competing across track and field events.

In the junior category, Sharjah athletes picked up several medals. Maria Fahad, Alia Khalid Al Shawari, Fawaghi Hamid, Hamda Jassim Ahli, Reem Al Badawi, Fatima Saud Al Sinani, Wadima Mohammed Fikri, Hanan Ibrahim and Rahaf Al Hosani were among the gold medal winners.

Sharjah also took silver in the 4x200m relay.

Khorfakkan added to the overall return through Fatima Rashid Suleiman, Mariam Omar, Hajar Al Saadi, Maitha Juma and Mira Ibrahim.

There were also new records in the junior girls’ competition. Sarah Fahad Abdullah won gold in the 100m hurdles, while Samar Saleh set a new mark in the high jump.

Shahd Rashid, Al Yazia Tariq, Alia Al Muhairi, Rodina Mohammed Adel and Mariam Murad also won gold for Sharjah, along with the medley relay team.

Khorfakkan’s Khadija Mohammed Al Hamsh and Raya Momen Al Dhanhani were also among the club’s leading performers.

In the youth girls’ category, Asmita Ganesh won gold in the 400m for Sharjah Women’s Sports Club. Sarah Khalifa Al Naqbi claimed gold in the long jump for Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club.

Sharjah added more golds in the women’s category through Mahra Abdulrahim Anqalia, Fatima Ali Al Balushi, Abeer Ibrahim Al Balushi and Adhra Adel. The club’s 4x100m relay team also finished first.

Mai Al Ameri, Deputy Director of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, said the results reflected the club’s long-term work and technical focus.

Hind Al Kabawi, Technical Director of Athletics, said the new records pointed to clear progress and a stronger base for future competition.
