They told her, “This isn’t a woman’s job.” Today, they watch her lift 60 kg truck tyres in silence.
When Odisha’s Suni Hembram’s husband was injured, survival left her with no other option. No mentor. No training program. No safety net. Just a family that needed to eat and a set of skills she had to teach herself, tyre by tyre.
Today, she runs a roadside repair shop alone. She lifts 40 to 60 kg truck tyres, operates heavy machinery and works physically demanding hours most people would never choose. In a field almost entirely closed off to women, she didn’t wait for permission.
What changed was not just her family’s survival. The same people who once told her, “This isn’t a woman’s job,” now watch her work in silence. This is a story of hardship no one should have to face, and one that is changing what a whole village believes a woman can do.

If Suni can do this with no one to guide her, imagine what you could do with even a little support.
