Shanaya Kapoor’s maximalist anarkali makes room for mirror work, gold butties and ornate borders

When mirror work, kiran lace, tassels, ghungroos and temple jewellery appear in one festive look, placement matters. In Shanaya Kapoor’s Jigya M anarkali from the label’s Rang collection, styled by Manisha Melwani, the heavier details sit along the border, cuffs and dupatta, while the body of the kurta stays comparatively unembellished.

The orange anarkali, which is detailed with small gold butties across the body before building towards a more elaborate hem. The multicoloured border features sequins, beadwork and kiran lace arranged in floral and leaf motifs, making the lower panel the most decorative section. At the sleeves, beadwork embroidery and tasselled sequins add another layer of embellishment at the edges of the ensemble.

The pink-and-orange dupatta carries the stronger burst of pattern. Its shisha work, associated with Rajasthan and Gujarat, brings another craft detail into the look, while the gold tassels at both ends pick up the metallic threadwork already present on the anarkali.

Melwani accessorised Kapoor’s look with a Baadra temple necklace set, Tharani temple anklet and Devira kundan polki ring from Indinoor Jewellery. Priya Lahon keeps the beauty look close to the no-makeup territory, paired with free-flowing hair.

From Vogue‘s Fashion Desk:

“Why not reimagine the fun multi coloured dupatta as a scarf tied at your neck with an easy cotton or linen maxi sundress for this heat. Match this with a pair of small solitaire earrings and keep it clean and breezy,” says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
