Human remains that were discovered in Plymouth last year have been identified as Sandra Crispo, a Hanson woman who went missing in 2019, prosecutors said.

In March of 2025, a hunter on a deer trail off of Route 3 between exit 13 and 14 found suspected human remains, officials said. State Police responded to the location and recovered a portion of a human skull.

FBI forensic testing later confirmed the skull belonged to Crispo, the office of Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced on Tuesday.

Crispo was last seen on August 7, 2019, after she babysat her grandchildren. She was reported missing on August 9, 2019, when her daughter, Laina McMahon, was unable to contact her, Boston.com previously reported.

“That’s when I discovered her lights were on, her backdoor was unlocked,” McMahon told Boston.com in 2020. “There was no sign of her. She didn’t have a cell phone, she didn’t have a computer, but it’s definitely not like her to, you know, leave.”

Family members said at the time of her disappearance that Crispo had no past experiences with depression, Boston.com reported.

Crispo was 54 when she went missing, the DA said.

Crispo moved from Quincy to Hanson three months prior to her disappearance, Boston.com previously reported.

Officials have engaged in “an extensive and exhaustive investigation into her disappearance,” Cruz’s office said, with investigators conducting “searches, interviews, forensic testing, reviews of records, and other investigative efforts.”

Hanson police said in 2019 that they did not suspect foul play was involved in Crispo’s disappearance. On Tuesday, a representative for the department referred questions about the investigation to the DA’s office, which did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.

“The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding Sandra Crispo’s disappearance is urged to contact Hanson Police at 781-293-4625, or Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office at 508-894-2600,” the DA said.
