Temple Football can be relevant again. We’ve seen it in the late 1970s when they were ranked in the top 20 nationally before beating California 28–17 in the Garden State Bowl. We saw it in 2009 —when the Owls rattled off nine straight wins to advance to the Eagle Bank Bowl under Al Golden. And we saw it in 2015 and 2016 —as the Owls won 10 games each and in Matt Rhule’s last season won the AAC Championship.
The second season of K.C. Keeler — is beginning to turn in the direction that Temple (2–3) wants after a late 17–13 win over South Florida this week.
The Owls then broke a 3 all deadlock with a 22-yard scoring connection to wide receiver Jojo Bermudez to take a 10–3 advantage over USF. Late in the 4th quarter and trailing 13–10 — the Owls went on a 96-yard drive capped off with a Sheppard 34-yard run to win the game with just over three minutes remaining in the contest.
The win helped to turn the page on a 4th quarter loss to Army at Lincoln Financial Field 21–17 last week.
Next up is UConn at Lincoln Financial Field at 3:45 on Saturday.
