Recap: Depleted And Disappointed— the Rams Beat Eagles 24–20 in South Philly

The Eagles began the afternoon without Zach Baun, Landon Dickerson, Devonta Smith, Lane Johnson, Fred Johnson, Hollywood Brown, Marcus Epps, and Dallas Goedert. By the games end — they would also be without Quinyon Mitchell, Jonathan Greenard, Tank Bigsby and Saquon Barkley. The injuries led to a largely stagnated offense — and a couple of over-aggressive offense calls that led to turnovers on downs.

But 249 years after Philadelphia fog affected the Battle of Germantown during the American Revolution this weekend — the rain could not stop the Eagles defense. With a more conservative approach during the game — this is one that the Eagles should have been able to place in the win column.

A slow start led to a 6–3 Eagles advantage — until Darius Cooper made an incredible catch in the endzone to extend the Eagles lead to 13–3 after a Drew Mukuba interception and a 41-yard Britain Covey punt return. Right before halftime — when it looked like the Rams had grabbed the momentum — Cooper DeJean grabbed an interception. Two plays later — Darius Cooper hauled in his second score of the day for a 20–10 advantage.

The last two quarters were certainly ones that Philly would like to have back. Without converting a third-down in the game — the Eagles failed on a third-quarter Tush Push attempt and then failed on a 4th and Goal in the 4th quarter.

Los Angeles took advantage — driving 98 yards in ten plays capped off by a Kyren Williams score. Then stopping the Eagles offense yet again when the Eagles went for it on 4th and goal unsuccessfully and then going on another long drive capped by a 7-yard Kyren Williams rushing touchdown with 1:10 remaining.

Philadelphia did get the ball back with just over a minute remaining and no timeouts — but after two Jalen Hurts sacks and a hail mary that fell short — the game was over.

The Eagles are now outscored 31–0 in the second half of the last two games.

We’ll need to track the injuries as the Eagles head to London to face the Jaguars next Sunday morning Philly time.
