The Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection And Environmental Research Centre (TNCPERC), Tiruvarur, has demanded holistic medical services for pregnant women at the Government Women and Children Hospital at Vijayapuram in Tiruvarur.
In a resolution passed at the monthly meeting of the association at Tiruvarur on Sunday, the forum pointed out that the 20 more beds were added to the hospital after creation of necessary infrastructure recently.
Although the capacity had increased to 60 beds, pregnant women with labour pain, who approach the Vijayapuram hospital at night, were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Tiruvarur, for delivery.
Insisting for additional manpower, the association urged the State government to ensure that wholistic medical services were provided to pregnant women approaching the hospital till the delivery of the baby.
On an average, as per official sources, 30 to 40 deliveries were recorded at this hospital per month with a daily average of 400 out-patients and around 30 in-patients per day. Filling necessary posts and installation of required medical and testing equipment would help avoid re-direction of pregnant women approaching this facility for delivery at night, the association added.

In another resolution, the forum urged the Centre to frame rules to regulate the advertisements of financial companies which normally engage prominent personalities or social media influencers or through AI created ‘virtual avatars’, in order to prevent fleecing of investors.
