A purported video of Hizbul Mujahideen’s deputy supreme commander, Shamsher Khan, has surfaced in which he allegedly claims that Pakistani terrorists fought and died in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that graveyards across the Valley contain the graves of militants who came from different parts of Pakistan.
In the video, accessed by India Today, Shamsher Khan is heard saying that from Lolab and Kupwara to Kathua, there is hardly any graveyard where Pakistani militants are not buried.
“From Lolab and Kupwara to Kathua, there is no graveyard where youths from different parts of Pakistan are not buried,” he allegedly says in the speech, adding that no one can break the relationship between Pakistan and Kashmir or create hatred against it.
During the address, the Hizbul commander reportedly described the slain militants from Pakistan as “martyrs” and claimed they had died while fighting for Kashmir. He said their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
The speech was reportedly delivered on July 8 in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during an event marking the death anniversary of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Posters of Burhan Wani and separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani were displayed at the venue, according to information available about the event.
JOINT AWAMI ACTION COMMITTEE ATTACKED TOO
Shamsher Khan also targeted the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), an organisation active in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He accused the group of being “traitors” and alleged that it was acting in India’s interest.
According to the video, he said there could be no compromise on Kashmir’s unity, the sacrifices of those he referred to as “martyrs”, or Pakistan’s ideology. He also claimed that the JAAC was attempting to undermine these principles.
The remarks are significant because they appear to publicly acknowledge that militants from different parts of Pakistan crossed into Jammu and Kashmir and participated in armed militancy. Indian security agencies have long maintained that Pakistan-based terrorist groups have infiltrated across the Line of Control and carried out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, a charge that Pakistan has consistently denied.
The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified by India Today. However, the contents of the speech are likely to draw attention as they appear to reinforce India’s longstanding position regarding cross-border terrorism and the involvement of Pakistan-based militants in the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
