On Monday, NFL fans were stunned by the news that the Cleveland Browns had traded reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the contending Los Angeles Rams in return for edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.
Garrett adds to an already impressive Rams squad that has their sights trained on winning its second Super Bowl title since 2022.
Not long after the trade was finalized, Garrett posted a touching goodbye message to fans of the Browns on his social media channel, thanking them for their support over the last nine seasons.
In part, the lengthy message to Browns fans from Garrett read:
“To Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, and every Browns fan, Nine years. It’s hard to put into words what that really means when so much of your life has been shaped in one place, around one team, and with one community behind you.
From my very first play you embraced me, and I wanted to help bring winning back to a city whose loyalty, resilience, and belief never wavered. What I didn’t fully understand then was how much this city would shape me.
Cleveland made me tougher. You challenged me. You taught me about perseverance, about showing up even when things aren’t easy, and what loyalty really looks like. Through the highs, lows, setbacks, injuries, expectations, inclement weather, and difficult seasons, you all kept showing up.”
He concluded by saying that there are bright days ahead for the Browns as a franchise.
“The best days for this franchise are ahead,” he said. “Thank you for letting me grow here. Thank you for believing in me.”
During what would be his final season with the Browns, Garrett set the NFL single-season sack record in 2025 with 23.0 sacks.
