Mother’s East Tavern officially opens on Saturday, May 2nd

Mother’s East Tavern, a neighborhood public house from Laura Fryer and Alec Barber, is officially opening Saturday, May 2nd in South Boston!

Located at 289 Dorchester Street, Mother’s East draws from the long tradition of English and Irish pubs, reinterpreted through an American lens — a place designed for a pint, a proper meal, and a sense of community.

The kitchen is led by Chef/Partner David Quinlan (of Bavel in Los Angeles), offering a refined take on tavern classics — from anchovy toast and crudo to a proper burger, shepherd’s pie, and a scotch egg — all designed to pair naturally with the bar program. Barber, who brings over two decades behind the bar (including time at Cure), approaches the drinks list with a clear point of view: well-made classics, thoughtful staples, and an emphasis on quality, technique, and value.

Set within a restored, one-story historic building, the space leans into the feeling of a long-standing neighborhood bar — layered with antique details, warm materials, and a “snug,” an enclosed booth inspired by traditional English and Irish pubs.
