Emirati designer Hamad Gharami is bringing the spirit of the UAE to Paris with his latest collection, Wing of the Desert, marking the collection’s first presentation in the city.
Rooted deeply in the landscapes, symbols and visual language of the Emirates, the collection offers a contemporary interpretation of familiar elements of Emirati nature and heritage. Rather than simply recreating traditional references, Gharami transforms them through a modern fashion perspective, creating a collection where identity, nature and contemporary design come together.
At the heart of the collection is one of the UAE’s most powerful symbols: the falcon.
The Falcon at the Heart of Wing of the Desert
The name Wing of the Desert draws its inspiration from the falcon, a bird closely associated with Emirati heritage, strength and freedom.
For Gharami, the falcon represents more than a visual motif. Its freedom, dignity and commanding presence across the desert became the foundation of the collection’s identity.
The bird’s movement and character helped shape the creative direction, giving the collection a sense of strength and elevation while connecting the designs to an important part of the UAE’s cultural landscape.
But the story does not end with the falcon.
Gharami expands the narrative to include the wider environment surrounding it, drawing inspiration from the desert, sand, sky, oases and palm trees. Together, these elements create a visual journey through the natural landscapes of the Emirates.
From Desert Sands to Emirati Skies
The collection’s colour palette follows this journey through nature.
It begins with shades of brown and gold, reflecting the falcon, desert and shifting sands. These earthy tones gradually transition into shades of green inspired by palm trees and oases, before moving toward blue tones drawn from the open Emirati sky.
This progression gives the collection a natural rhythm, allowing the colours to communicate the changing landscapes that inspired its creation.
Each element becomes part of a larger visual story, with colour, detail and composition working together to express the relationship between the UAE’s natural environment and its cultural identity.
A Modern Language for Emirati Identity
For Hamad Gharami, one of the greatest creative challenges was bringing several different sources of inspiration together within a single collection.
“I wanted this collection to be built around more than one element from the nature of the UAE,” Gharami explains. “The challenge for me was bringing all these ideas together and connecting them within one collection. Thankfully, the result came out the way I imagined it.”
That process reflects an important part of his design philosophy. Instead of choosing one symbol and building an entire narrative around it, Gharami allows multiple elements of the Emirati landscape to communicate with one another.
The result is a collection that feels connected to place while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary fashion.
More Than Fashion, a Story of Place
Gharami describes Wing of the Desert as an opportunity to show familiar elements of the UAE through his own perspective as an Emirati designer.
“I wanted to take these elements that we see in our nature and show them to you in my own way as an Emirati designer, but with a modern and contemporary spirit,” he says.
For the designer, the collection is ultimately about more than silhouettes and colours. It is about allowing the audience to discover the story behind each piece and understand the inspiration that shaped it.
That approach gives Wing of the Desert a deeper cultural dimension. The collection does not simply borrow from Emirati heritage. It interprets it, translating elements of the natural environment into a contemporary fashion language.
An Emirati Vision on the International Fashion Stage
Presented for the first time in Paris, Wing of the Desert represents another opportunity for Hamad Gharami to introduce an Emirati creative perspective to an international fashion audience.
Through the collection, the designer demonstrates how local identity can become a source of contemporary creativity without losing its cultural essence.
The falcon, desert, palm trees, oases and sky may all be familiar symbols of the UAE, but through Gharami’s vision they become part of a new fashion narrative.
With Wing of the Desert, Hamad Gharami is not simply presenting a collection. He is presenting a perspective of the Emirates, shaped by heritage, inspired by nature and expressed through the language of modern fashion.
