He started with ₹800 and four children in a leaking cowshed.
Today, 2,000+ children have studied there. ❤️
Some of those children have gone on to become police officers and professionals who are now giving back to their communities.
But years ago, many of them were growing up in remote areas of Assam with little or no access to school.
Uttam Teron saw children playing in mud and floodwater.
He couldn’t look away.
So he turned a leaking cowshed into a classroom.
There were no teachers. No funding.
He sent hundreds of emails asking for whatever people could spare—old books, clothes, bamboo and tin sheets.
Only two or three people replied.
Still, Uttam kept going.
He initially wanted to prepare the children to enter government schools. But their parents asked:
“Please let the kids stay till Class 10.”
Uttam couldn’t say no.
So he built Parijat Academy brick by brick, classroom by classroom.
Today, 50 children from some of the most remote and disadvantaged villages live and study there. They learn computers, weaving, sewing, sports and dance.
And when his former students return to volunteer and give back to their villages, Uttam knows every sleepless night was worth it.
Because sometimes, one teacher doesn’t just teach children, they change the future of an entire community.
