200+ abandoned animals now have a home because one person chose not to look away.
After seeing pets being abandoned again and again, Naresh Akil left his job in 2025 and built Thozhuvam, an animal sanctuary in Coimbatore.
People didn’t take him seriously at first.
“People said it wouldn’t work… I just kept showing up.”
Today, it houses 200+ rescued animals across 35 species, cared for by a team of just seven, including Naresh and his wife who live there full-time.
