Mountain Gipsy is not just a brand. It is the work of Tima Deryan — a mountaineer, speaker, and mindset expert who helps individuals, leaders, and organizations strengthen how they think, perform, and lead under pressure.
Built on real-world experience in some of the most demanding environments on earth, Mountain Gipsy translates lessons from challenge and uncertainty into practical tools for modern life and leadership.
This work began as a personal journey.
From Mountains to Mindset
Before founding Mountain Gipsy, Tima Deryan had already established herself as a high-altitude mountaineer, becoming the first Lebanese woman and youngest Arab to summit Mount Everest and ski to the South Pole. She also completed the Seven Summits challenge, climbing the highest mountain on each continent, and has summited more than 30 mountains worldwide.
But while these achievements positioned her among a select group of endurance athletes, they were not the end goal.
They marked the beginning of a deeper shift.
After years of operating in extreme environments, Tima began to recognize that the real value of those experiences extended far beyond physical performance. The mountains had taught her discipline, resilience, and how to function under pressure, but more importantly, they revealed how mindset shapes decision-making, behavior, and outcomes.
This realization led her to question how these lessons could be applied beyond the mountains.
How do people think under pressure?
How do they make decisions when outcomes are uncertain?
How do they respond when faced with discomfort, fear, or failure?
At the time, Tima was working in the corporate world in finance. As these questions became more central to her thinking, she made the decision to step away from her corporate career and transition into coaching.
She became a certified coach and began working with individuals and teams, translating the lessons she had learned in high-stakes environments into practical tools for real-world challenges.
This marked the foundation of Mountain Gipsy, not as a lifestyle concept, but as a structured approach to mindset, mental fitness, and performance.
Lessons That Go Beyond the Mountains
What became clear to Tima over time was that the value of these expeditions extended far beyond the physical achievement.
In those environments, progress depends on more than strength or endurance. It requires the ability to stay focused when conditions are uncertain, manage fear and emotional responses under pressure, make decisions without guaranteed outcomes, and continue moving forward even when progress feels slow.
These patterns are not unique to the mountains.
They mirror the realities people face in their everyday lives — whether leading a team, running a business, or navigating personal challenges.
Pressure.
Uncertainty.
Responsibility.
In those moments, the difference is rarely capability.
It is mindset!
What Mountain Gipsy Represents Today
Today, Mountain Gipsy focuses on one core idea:
How we train the mind determines how we perform.
Through coaching, keynote speaking, workshops, and experiential team development, Tima works with individuals and organizations to strengthen mindset, build resilience, and improve performance.
Her work is grounded in:
- Mental fitness and mindset development
- Leadership and decision-making under pressure
- Resilience and sustainable performance
Rather than focusing on short-term motivation, Mountain Gipsy focuses on practical tools and behaviors that create lasting change.
Why This Matters for Everyone
While the story begins in extreme environments, the message is universal.
Most people are not climbing mountains. But everyone faces moments that require resilience, clarity, and courage.
Moments where:
You are making a difficult decision.
You are stepping into something new.
You are facing uncertainty or pressure.
In those moments, the challenge is not physical. It is mental.
And that is what this work is about.
Helping people strengthen how they think so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.
Bringing These Lessons Into Organizations
While this work is deeply relevant on an individual level, it has become increasingly valuable within organizations as well. Today’s teams operate in environments that demand speed, adaptability, clear decision-making, and strong communication. Many organizations invest heavily in skills and strategy, yet what often determines success is something less visible: how people think and behave under pressure. This is where Mountain Gipsy’s work finds its place. Organizations turn to Tima Deryan to help their people perform more effectively in demanding conditions. Through keynote speaking, workshops, and team experiences, she works with teams to strengthen leadership mindset, improve communication and trust, build resilience without burnout, enhance decision-making under pressure, and create alignment and accountability. What sets her approach apart is that it is not rooted in theory alone, but in real-world experience, where performance, decisions, and mindset carry immediate consequences. By translating those lessons into practical tools, she enables teams to apply them directly to their day-to-day work. The result is not just inspiration, but a tangible shift in how individuals and teams think, operate, and perform
Inspiring the Next Generation
Beyond her work with individuals and organizations, Tima has also shares her message with younger audiences through her children’s book series, Curly Adventures. She is the author of Curly Adventures: Mount Everest and Curly Adventures: The Antarctic Expedition, both inspired by her real-life journeys. Adapted for children, the stories follow a young character navigating challenges that mirror the realities of exploration, while delivering simple but powerful messages about perseverance, courage, and self-belief. Through these books, Tima aims to introduce the foundations of mindset early on, encouraging children to dream big, embrace challenges, and understand that growth often comes from stepping outside their comfort zone.
What It All Comes Down To
For all the summits, expeditions, and achievements, the core idea behind Mountain Gipsy is surprisingly grounded. Life rarely presents itself in perfect conditions; more often, it shows up as uncertainty, a difficult decision, or a step into something unfamiliar. In those moments, the challenge is not external, it is internal. And that, ultimately, is the work: helping people think more clearly, respond more intentionally, and move forward even when the path ahead is not fully visible. Because the most important mountains are not always the ones we can see—they are the ones we choose to face.
