Dubai is once again proving why community initiatives remain one of the city’s strongest traditions. As temperatures continue to climb across the UAE, the Al Freej Fridge campaign has officially returned for its third consecutive year with its biggest mission yet: distributing 2 million free refreshments to the people working outdoors during the hottest months of the year.

Running daily until September 3, 2026, the initiative is delivering ice-cold water, juices, and frozen treats directly to construction workers, delivery riders, municipal crews, landscapers, and thousands of other essential workers who spend long hours under the summer sun.

Rather than asking workers to travel for relief, the campaign takes the refreshments directly to them, ensuring hydration is available where it is needed most.

Dubai’s Summer Relief Campaign Is Bigger Than Ever

Since launching in 2024, Al Freej Fridge has quickly become one of Dubai’s most recognizable summer community campaigns.

What began as an initiative to distribute one million refreshments has continued to grow year after year. For Summer 2026, organizers have doubled down on the effort, setting a target of 2 million cold drinks and frozen treats before the campaign concludes in early September.

The initiative is organized by Ferjan Dubai with support from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) alongside several government and charitable partners.

Its purpose is straightforward: help protect outdoor workers from extreme summer temperatures while recognizing the vital role they play in keeping Dubai running every day.

Four Refrigerated Vans Are Covering Dubai

This year’s operation has expanded significantly compared to previous editions.

More than 200 volunteers are participating throughout the campaign, working in rotating teams to keep refreshments moving across multiple parts of the city.

Specially equipped refrigerated vehicles are travelling throughout worker-heavy areas including:

  • Jebel Ali
  • Al Quoz
  • Al Warqa
  • Al Barsha

The mobile distribution model allows volunteers to reach construction sites, logistics hubs, road crews, landscaping teams, and delivery workers throughout the day.

Instead of relying on workers to seek assistance, the campaign brings hydration directly to active job sites where temperatures can become especially challenging during the summer months.

It Is More Than Just A Mobile Ice Cream Truck

While the brightly coloured refrigerated vehicles have become one of the campaign’s most recognisable features, the operation extends well beyond mobile distributions.

The initiative is also installing fixed refrigerated fridges inside worker accommodation facilities, allowing residents to access chilled water and refreshments after completing their shifts.

This approach ensures support continues even after the mobile vehicles have moved on to other locations.

The goal is to make hydration consistently available throughout the day rather than limiting distribution to scheduled visits alone.

Multiple Organisations Are Working Together

The scale of the campaign requires coordination between several organisations across Dubai.

Ferjan Dubai oversees the initiative, while the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) provides strategic support.

Meanwhile:

  • Suqia UAE supplies drinking water.
  • UAE Food Bank manages storage, refrigeration, and logistical operations.
  • Hundreds of community volunteers coordinate daily distributions across the city.

The partnership enables the campaign to maintain a steady supply chain capable of distributing millions of refreshments over several months.

A Campaign Built Around Worker Welfare

According to Alia Al Shamlan, Director of Ferjan Dubai, the campaign is centred on recognising the contribution made by the city’s outdoor workforce.

Construction workers, delivery riders, cleaners, landscapers, maintenance crews, and other essential personnel continue working throughout Dubai’s hottest season while helping keep infrastructure, transport, and public spaces operating normally.

The campaign views protecting their health, safety, and wellbeing as a shared community responsibility.

Hydration plays a particularly important role during the UAE summer, where prolonged outdoor work requires regular access to drinking water and cooling opportunities.
