With the NBA’s window for free agency negotiating now open, the Celtics appear to be off and running.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Boston has agreed to a one-year contract with free agent guard Mike Conley Jr.

“Conley sifted through a handful of offers before a decision, with his agents Steven Heumann and Jessica Holtz of CAA Sports informing the Celtics brass this morning,” noted Charania on social media Wednesday morning.

The 38-year-old spent parts of the last four seasons with the Timberwolves (previously playing also for the Jazz and Grizzlies, where his NBA career began). A 19-year NBA veteran, Conley brings a steady hand to the Celtics’ backcourt.

The Celtics offseason could take several significant directions in the coming weeks, depending mostly on what happens with small forward Jaylen Brown. Brown, having previously been at the center of the now-failed attempts to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, could still be traded by the Celtics.

Aside from Brown, Boston clearly has other notable offseason priorities. Evidently, president of basketball operations Brad Stevens felt that adding some more help to the depth chart at guard was an important task.
