Fabian Lysell’s tenure with the Bruins has come to an end.
The Bruins announced on Saturday that they traded Lysell, their 2021 first-round pick, to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Ivan Ivan.
Ivan, 23, appeared in 66 games with the Colorado Eagles (AHL) during the 2025-26 season, scoring 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. The Czech forward has also appeared in 49 total games with the Avalanche — scoring five goals and nine total points.
While Ivan projects as more of a depth forward or AHL regular, Saturday’s trade marks the end of a disappointing stint for Lysell in Boston.
There was plenty of optimism for the Bruins when they selected Lysell with the 21st pick in the 2021 NHL Draft — with the speedy, high-skilled winger standing as a stark departure from the type of players that Boston usually targets, especially higher up in the draft boards.
But Lysell’s progression stagnated with the Providence Bruins, with the 23-year-old winger only appearing in 12 games in the NHL with one goal and two assists to this point. He played four full seasons in the AHL with Providence — recording 163 points (57 goals, 106 assists) in 219 games.
It’s a rough look for both the Bruins and Lysell — with Boston granting Lysell limited reps to showcase his high-end offensive talent in the NHL ranks, and Lysell failing to take advantage of several opportunities to carve out a role, especially during training camp in 2024 and 2025.
The Bruins’ 2021 NHL Draft is looking more and more like a complete whiff, with multiple picks no longer in Boston’s organization.
