Joshua Flores is accused of stabbing three men near Cambridge Street and Harvard Avenue last Sunday, police said.

A Brighton man arrested Thursday while allegedly wielding a machete is now facing charges in connection with a triple stabbing last weekend, according to Boston police.

Joshua Flores, 24, was initially arrested shortly before 5 p.m. on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace, Boston police said in a statement.

Officers responded to a call about a person swinging a large knife near Leo M. Birmingham Parkway Thursday afternoon and allegedly found Flores carrying a machete down Western Avenue. According to police, Flores dropped the machete as instructed and also had a folding knife with reddish-brown staining in his pocket.

“After further investigation, detectives developed probable cause to charge Flores with a recent triple stabbing” that occurred on Oct. 4 near Cambridge Street and Harvard Avenue, the Boston Police Department said.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing in the neighborhood at about 1:30 a.m. last Sunday and found three men suffering from stab wounds, according to police. Boston EMS transported all three men to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Flores is charged with three counts of armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and two counts of felony mayhem in connection with the stabbing.

Judge Shelley Joseph ordered Flores held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Oct. 15. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
