Bharatiya Janata Party candidates file their nominations for the Rajya Sabha election on October 6, 2026

Ten candidates, including eight from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and two from the Samajwadi Party (SP), were declared elected unopposed for the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh on Friday (October 9, 2026).
Returning Officer Ajit Verma, who is also the Special Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, said the candidates had been declared elected unopposed.
All candidates from the BJP, Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, and Shruti Gangwar, were elected, while from the SP, Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani and Ram Gopal Yadav were elected.
All candidates except SP nominee Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani had collected their election certificates. Mr. Nathwani will formally receive his certificate on October 12th at 10 a.m. during the auspicious festival of Sharadiya Navratri.
Representatives of SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav and BJP candidate Radhakant Ojha collected the certificates on their behalf. The biennial elections were necessitated by the expiry of the terms of 10 Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh on November 25.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the BJP candidates. “Congratulations to all BJP candidates on being elected unopposed from Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha biennial elections 2026. I am confident that all of you will make a significant contribution to realizing the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s resolve for a ‘developed India’ and to providing new impetus to the nation’s progress. You will also enhance the dignity of the Upper House. Wishing you all a bright future,” wrote Mr. Adityanath, on X.
The SP newly elected Rajya Sabha member Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani said he will remain fully dedicated to taking forward the progressive vision of respected Akhilesh ji regarding the all-round development of Uttar Pradesh.
“On my election to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, I express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the Honorable National President of the Samajwadi Party, Shri Akhilesh Yadav ji. I am deeply grateful to all the senior leadership of the party and the honorable MLAs who expressed their unwavering faith in me,” he wrote on X.
“I will remain fully dedicated to taking forward the progressive vision of respected Akhilesh ji regarding the all-round development of Uttar Pradesh, modern infrastructure, and a bright future for the youth on the floor of the Parliament. I will formally receive my victory certificate on October 12th at 10 a.m. during the auspicious festival of Sharadiya Navratri. Thank you all for your boundless love, blessings, and good wishes,” the post further read.
