Ayushmann Khurrana has built his filmography around stories that often step away from conventional Bollywood templates while retaining their mainstream appeal. From making his debut with Vicky Donor to starring in films like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Andhadhun and Dream Girl, the actor has explored different genres and subjects. With Udta Teer, Yeh Prem Mol Liya and Mupapa adding to his upcoming slate, Ayushmann says he intends to continue backing stories that offer audiences something different.

Speaking about his approach to choosing projects, the actor emphasised that experimentation has remained central to his journey. “I have always believed in walking the road less travelled. Whether it is from Vicky Donor, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Dream Girl, Andhadhun to Udta Teer, Yeh Prem Mol Liya or Mupapa, my choices continue to reflect that and I want to keep exploring stories that are content-forward and break away from the expected. It is the audience’s trust in my choices that gives me the confidence to take risks and the freedom to experiment, challenge myself and move between genres.”
Ayushmann’s filmography has included social comedies, romantic dramas and dark thrillers, allowing him to move between different storytelling spaces rather than remain associated with a single genre. At a time when franchises, large-scale spectacles and familiar formulas continue to occupy a significant space in the industry, the actor believes there is still room for films that take a different approach.
He also spoke about the importance of balancing unusual premises with entertainment, adding that audience acceptance ultimately encourages him to keep experimenting. “As an actor, I have always wanted to be part of films that offer them something new while keeping entertainment at the heart of it. The love Udta Teer continues to receive is humbling, and it only tells me that audiences are always ready for something different. They will embrace a fresh perspective, an unusual premise or a new way of storytelling, as long as it entertains and connects with them. I’m thankful to every director, writer and team that has trusted me with these stories, and to the audience for showing that unconventional stories can find a place in mainstream entertainment,” he added.
With Udta Teer receiving attention and Yeh Prem Mol Liya and Mupapa representing different facets of his upcoming work, Ayushmann continues to explore varied narratives. His latest comments underline his intention to keep choosing projects that combine distinctive storytelling with theatrical entertainment.
