A woman devotee from Chennai has offered a Rs 4 crore cheque at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, asking that the amount be used to improve the salaries and facilities of employees working at the temple. The devotee, identified as S Nag Lakshmi, also donated Rs 10,000 separately for Ram Lalla during her visit. The much larger cheque was specifically earmarked for the welfare of temple staff, according to her stated intention. A receipt for the Rs 4 crore cheque has also surfaced.
The unusual nature of the donation has drawn attention as the money was not offered as a general contribution to the temple but with a specific request that it benefit those involved in its day-to-day operations.
However, questions have now been raised over whether the cheque can be encashed. Bank-linked sources have claimed that the account from which the cheque was issued does not have sufficient funds to cover the Rs 4 crore amount.

The claim has not been independently verified, and the actual status of the cheque can only be established once it goes through the banking process.
Under standard banking procedures, the cheque will be examined and processed after being presented for clearing. If the account has adequate funds and the transaction meets the required conditions, the payment can be processed. If not, the cheque could be returned unpaid.
It is not immediately clear whether the cheque has already been presented for clearing or what its current status is.
Nag Lakshmi’s stated purpose behind the donation was to ensure better remuneration and facilities for the employees serving at the temple. The contribution has therefore generated interest, with attention now focused on whether the Rs 4 crore cheque ultimately clears. The final status of the donation will become clear only after the bank completes the clearing process.
