Mikel Arteta has pledged that Arsenal will refuse to rest on their laurels this summer as the north London club prepare to defend the league crown they waited more than two decades to reclaim.
The Spanish manager, whose side ended a 22-year title drought last season, made clear his intentions following a convincing pre-season victory against Girona.
“We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously,” Arteta declared.
“We want to get better like anybody else, and you can see the transfer market and our opponents… We won’t sit still and we are very ambitious with what we are doing.”

He stressed the necessity of raising internal competition, noting that “the margins are very small” and that Arsenal must “identify the things that we don’t have in the team.”
The Gunners have already made three notable additions to their squad during the current window. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has arrived, whilst Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapie has seen his temporary arrangement converted into a full transfer.
Perhaps the most eye-catching acquisition thus far is Greek forward Christos Tzolis, who joined from Club Brugge for £34m.
The 24-year-old, who amassed 43 goals and 45 assists across 108 outings for the Belgian outfit, has been brought in as a successor to Leandro Trossard following the latter’s departure to Besiktas.
Further reinforcements could yet follow. Arsenal are anticipated to complete a deal for Newcastle United’s Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, and the club has also been connected with a potential swoop for Real Madrid’s star winger Vinicius Jr.

Tzolis wasted little time in offering Arsenal supporters a taste of his qualities, finding the net on his debut against Girona.
The Greek international danced past Arnau Martinez before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner, aided by a slight deflection, on the half-hour mark.
It was Kai Havertz, however, who had opened the scoring sixteen minutes in, finishing coolly in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga after a superb through ball from 16-year-old Max Dowman.
Girona’s Martinez pulled one back from a corner shortly after half-time, but the response was swift.
Dowman restored the two-goal cushion within three minutes before Gabriel Jesus added a fourth to cap a breathless five-minute spell.
Arteta fielded a robust starting lineup in Spain, with Viktor Gyokeres, Havertz and Hincapie each given 30-minute run-outs following their World Cup commitments.

Arsenal’s next pre-season outing takes them across the Irish Sea, with a fixture against Real Betis at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium scheduled for 5 August.
The competitive action begins in earnest a fortnight later when Arteta’s men face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, 16 August — a fitting curtain-raiser pitting the champions against their closest rivals.
The defence of their hard-won title then gets under way on Friday, 21 August, when Arsenal host Coventry City at the Emirates in the opening match of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
The Sky Blues, newly promoted to the top flight, will provide the first test of the Gunners’ credentials as they seek to prove last season’s triumph was no mere anomaly.
