Megan Pickford has provoked widespread backlash after invoking the late Princess Diana in a TikTok clip about seatbelt safety, filmed aboard a private jet bound for Ibiza.
The 33-year-old, who is married to Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 32, shared the video with her followers during the flight.
In the post, she declared: “I love wearing my seatbelt in every environment.
“If it can go wrong for Princess D it can go wrong for any of us.”

The remark left many viewers stunned. One commenter wrote: “The Princess Diana bit caught me off guard.”
The casual tone of the reference to the beloved late royal’s tragic death drew sharp criticism from fans across social media.
Diana, Princess of Wales, died on 31 August 1997 after sustaining catastrophic injuries in a vehicle collision inside the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in the French capital.
At the time of the crash, she had been seated in the rear of a chauffeur-driven Mercedes without a seatbelt fastened.
Her then-boyfriend Dodi Fayed was also travelling in the car.
The tragedy remains one of the most deeply felt losses in modern British history, which makes Megan Pickford’s flippant allusion all the more jarring for many who watched the TikTok clip.

The fact that she delivered the remarks from the comfort of a private aircraft only appeared to heighten the sense of tastelessness felt by numerous commenters.
The mother of three also revealed she had brought a crystal along for “protection,” adding: “I was not messing around for this trip, protection first.”

Megan’s Ibiza getaway follows a difficult period for her husband and the national side, who suffered defeat at the hands of Argentina in the World Cup semi-finals in the United States last month.
Throughout the tournament, she had earned the affectionate nickname “Queen of the Wags” and regularly showcased her fashionable ensembles on social media whilst cheering on the Three Lions.
Her elevated public profile, however, has made the Diana remarks all the more conspicuous, with supporters questioning her judgement in referencing such a sensitive chapter of the nation’s history.
