Adelaide is set for a cool, showery week, with today bringing the wettest and windiest conditions before the city settles into a run of mostly cloudy days and below-average temperatures through to the weekend.
For Monday, Adelaide can expect a grey and damp day, with a very high chance of showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm late this morning and into the afternoon. Westerly winds will be brisk before swinging southwesterly later in the day, and the city is only expected to reach 19 degrees. Rainfall could total anywhere between 3 and 15mm, making this the day to keep the umbrella close and allow a little extra time on the roads.
Tuesday looks slightly calmer, though it won’t feel especially warm. Adelaide is forecast to stay partly cloudy, with a medium chance of a shower, most likely early in the morning. Winds will ease as the day goes on, and temperatures will again top out at 19 degrees after a cool overnight minimum of 11.
By Wednesday, the unsettled pattern returns more clearly. Cloud will thicken across Adelaide and showers are expected to become likely again, particularly through the morning and afternoon. Northerly winds will shift sharply south to southwesterly during the afternoon, bringing a fresh change and a gustier finish to the day. The maximum will remain at 19 degrees, with up to 6mm of rain possible.
Thursday is shaping up as the coldest day of the stretch so far, with a top of just 15 degrees under cloudy skies. While only a slight chance of a shower is forecast, southerly winds of 20 to 30 km/h will make it feel cooler across the suburbs and along the coast.
The weather stays fairly subdued into Friday, with cloud lingering and a medium chance of a shower. Temperatures are expected to recover a little, reaching 19 degrees, though southwesterly to southerly winds will keep that late-autumn chill in the air. Saturday and Sunday continue with mostly cloudy conditions, only a slight chance of a passing shower, and tops of 19 and 20 degrees respectively. Light winds on the weekend should make things feel more settled, even if the sunshine remains limited.
Across regional South Australia, the broader pattern is being driven by a low pressure system moving east over waters south of the state, followed by a ridge on Tuesday and another cold front later Wednesday. That means showers will be most active across the agricultural area and West Coast district, with the chance of thunderstorms today in eastern and central districts south of about Adelaide. Conditions should ease back to coastal districts by this evening, though showers will linger across southern and western parts of the state over the next few days.
