Bettina “Tina” Dalton, a pioneering figure in Australian natural history filmmaking, has died, leaving behind a career spanning more than three decades and a body of work seen around the world.
The news was confirmed today by WildBear Entertainment, which described Dalton as a trailblazing filmmaker and highlighted her contribution to natural history storytelling both in Australia and internationally.
Dalton was a Principal and Executive Producer at WildBear Entertainment, where she helped build the independent factual studio alongside Michael Tear.

Across more than 30 years in the industry, her work included feature documentaries Every Little Thing, Playing with Sharks and Rachel’s Farm, along with television productions including National Geographic’s Boss Croc, King Kangaroo and Dolphin Dynasty, Love Nature’s Australia’s Hidden Islands and Bushfire Animal Rescue, produced for SBS, PBS Nature and international broadcasters.
Dalton was Emmy-nominated, while Playing with Sharks, which explored the life and work of Australian conservationist and filmmaker Valerie Taylor, was selected for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and went on to win numerous awards internationally.

WildBear CEO Michael Tear described Dalton as “one of its brightest stars and strongest advocates” for natural history filmmaking.
Screen Producers Australia also paid tribute to Dalton, describing her as a “formidable producer and business leader” and a passionate champion of Australian factual and natural history production.
SPA CEO Matthew Deaner said Dalton had generously shared her knowledge with fellow producers throughout her career and helped pave the way for those coming through behind her.
