A 30-year-old assistant section officer at the Ministry of Defence, who was three months pregnant, died by suicide at her residence in Delhi’s Dwarka. Her family alleges that she faced continuous physical and psychological harassment for dowry from her husband and in-laws. They have raised concerns over a delay in police action, citing the involvement of a former police official in the family. While an initial statement to the magistrate raised no suspicions, a subsequent complaint led to an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections relating to cruelty and abetment to suicide. The deceased’s family is demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation and action against the investigating officers.
