Four players depart Melbourne City’s title winning squad

Ayana Aoyagi, Caitlin Karic, Chinaza Uchendu and Ellie Wilson will all depart Melbourne City following the conclusion of their Ninja A-League contracts.

The quartet were part of City’s 2025/26 Premiership and Championship-winning squad, with Karic bringing an end to a five-year stint at the club.

Karic joined City as a 15-year-old in September 2021 and progressed into a regular member of the first-team squad.

Chinaza Uchendu of Melbourne City

The midfielder made 36 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions during her time in City blue, contributing to multiple trophy-winning campaigns.

Aoyagi, Wilson and Uchendu all joined City ahead of the 2025/26 season and played a role in the club’s successful campaign.

Wilson made eight appearances during her time at City, while Aoyagi was a valued member of the playing group throughout the season.

Nigerian international Uchendu made 21 appearances and scored four goals, including a memorable late winner against PFC Nasaf in City’s AFC Women’s Champions League home quarter-final.

She also scored twice in quick succession against Canberra United to inspire City to a come-from-behind victory late in the Ninja A-League season.

Keira Sarris will remain at Melbourne City after the expiration of her senior contract, joining the club’s Academy program.

The reigning Ninja A-League champions kick off their title defence with a Grand Final re-match against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, October 18.
