Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a renowned Pakistani classical and playback singer who rose to fame through his iconic hit songs and qawwalis, especially his timeless hits for Pakistani drama OSTs and Indian movies. A few days ago, on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s barsi (death anniversary), Rahat Fateh Ali Khan gave a Qawali performance at his grave, which ignited huge public backlash. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has now responded to the criticism on Naeem Hanif’s YouTube show on RNN.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said, “I would like to say that netizens criticize out of love; it is their way of showing love. But those who don’t know our traditions come up with such hate. I have no reply for them, and I don’t want to talk about them. We follow our legacy. I followed that; it’s our legacy of a hundred years. We Qawals do that. He added, “One thing I want to say is that, as we were standing on the edges of the grave, we recited at the edges of the grave. We didn’t stand inside it, and I was very respectful. You could see that through my body language. I can’t believe my loved one talked so much against me.” He further said that before all this, they had Quran Khuwani and prayers before the Qawali.
