When People Had Pride | Write Out Loud

I wish I could take a step back in time.

When doorsteps were polished to a shine.

People had little, but they did have pride.

When neigbourhoods stood side by side.

People had standards and ethics to share.

Dumping your rubbish, you wouldn’t dare!

Streets were poor, but were spotlessly clean.

Litter strewn about, would never be seen.

Red Cardinal polish, on tiles clay or stone.

And doorsteps would sparkle like a throne!

So what happened, why did standards drop?

What became of that pride, why did it stop?

Streets full of rubbish everywhere now by me.

Lazy and shameless people, everywhere I see.
