The UAE national weightlifting team will compete at the Asian Championship in Ahmedabad, India, from May 9 to 17.
The UAE Weightlifting Federation confirmed the squad will travel to India on May 9, with four athletes selected for the continental event.
The team includes Moayad Al Najjar, Zahra Al Hashemi, Ezzaddine Al Ghafeer and Isa Rajab Al Balushi.
The delegation will be headed by Sheikha Al Kaabi, a board member of the federation. Rashid Khalaf Al Mazrouei, also a board member, will travel as the administrative representative.
The federation said the team has completed its preparations after a series of training stages in recent weeks.
Sheikha Al Kaabi said the squad is ready for the challenge and will aim to produce strong results in Ahmedabad.
The championship is also part of the UAE team’s build-up for future international events and offers another chance for the athletes to test themselves against some of Asia’s leading lifters.
The UAE will be represented by three male athletes and one female athlete, with Zahra Al Hashemi adding female representation to the national squad.
The event gives the federation another marker for where its lifters stand at continental level, with the focus on personal records, competition experience and progress before the next stage of the international calendar.
