Ten axes Adelaide sales team as operations shift to Melbourne

Network Ten has moved to centralise its Adelaide commercial sales operations in Melbourne, resulting in job losses within the broadcaster’s South Australian sales team.

As first reported by David Simmons from InDaily, eight staff members have been made redundant, including General Manager and Sales Director for Adelaide Cameron Mudge, as Paramount transitions the entire Adelaide sales operation interstate.

The affected employees were informed in an email sent by Paramount Chief Sales Officer ANZ Rod Prosser, as part of what the company described as an ongoing restructure aimed at supporting its broader business strategy.

“As part of our ongoing focus on driving earnings growth and transforming our business we will transition the Adelaide sales operation to Melbourne.

This was not an easy decision, but one that was necessary to best support our business strategy.

We understand this news is difficult, and we are committed to supporting those affected through this transition.

We would like to thank those employees who will be leaving for their valuable contribution to Paramount over many years. We wish them all the best.”

TV Blackbox understands the redundancies come at the same time as Mitsubishi Motors has decided to discontinue a long-running integrated-advertising campaign with Have You Been Paying Attention. The popular campaign featured host Tom Gleisner appearing in comedic versions of Mitsubishi ads as part of the program. Mitsubishi had been a key sales client for 10’s Adelaide sales team.

The changes in Adelaide prompted internal concern about the potential impact on local news operations, however Paramount has confirmed that Network Ten’s Adelaide newsroom is not affected by the restructure.

In a separate email to staff, Paramount Vice President News Martin White sought to reassure employees that journalism roles in South Australia would remain intact.

“There are no job losses or changes to the news team because of this.

We remain committed to local news in Adelaide, which continues to go from strength to strength.”

Martin White, VP News, said in his message.

Journalists and camera operators in Adelaide will continue producing local news content for South Australia, according to the company.
