In Zemithang, Arunachal Pradesh, communities come together every Sunday to keep their Himalayan home clean. Residents wash, dry and sort their waste into 22 categories, including plastic, glass and metal.
Every household contributes âš50, while women riders collect the segregated waste and take it to a recycling centre. Started by Merwyn Coutinho in 2020, the Himalayan Fringes Project has impacted 20,000+ people and recovered nearly 90 tonnes of waste.
No fancy technology. Just community action, civic sense and a shared responsibility to protect the Himalayas. đď¸
