2026: Trev’s Annual Texas Tour and NaPoRiMo Part 6 Midland to Edinburg

Image Leaving a rest room on I37 ann the rains really comin’ down

19.04.25: 99-71) Last night went alright,

I took Bonnie home we didn’t cry, as we hugged an’ said goodbye.

Not a tear but hope to be together again next

This morning I took it steady getting ready

Making sure I got everything I did bring

Checkout easier than expected, room deposit collected

Tell them my stay’s been a delight, I’ll use them again if the price is right

Then to the car, already stowed, as once more I hit the road

100-72) Start car I’m away, fuelled it last night

Call for coffee to go, get things right

An’ memories abound as once more I’m Southward bound

To the East a reddish hue, tells me sunup’s nearly due

An’ so day breaks once more on another part of my 2026 Poetry Tour

101-73) For I10 bound coverin’ familiar ground

In Ozona I make a breakfast stop, at Bryan’s Taco Shop

I never supposed it would be closed

No need for dread, grab an’ go from a gas station instead

Grab it, pay, eat it an’ once more I’m on my way

102-74) On I10 I see police lights flashin’

He’s pulled someone over, maybe for excessive dashin’

Just beyond I see, another hiding behind a tree

I stick to the limit so he don’t chase me

I glance in the mirror, he’s drivin’ the opposite way

I’m thinkin’ ‘will he spoil another speedsters day?’

So my drive carries on with the occasional break

Pictures to take, memories to make

Then a Sheriff joins the fray, pulls onto the I10 an’ he’s away

He’s caught one does he have a quota today?

San Antonio’s near, fill up with gas it ain’t so dear

An’ I can depend on getting to journeys end

103-75) San Antonio I’m through sky no longer blue

Turning grey, rain on the way

Sign says Rio Grande Valley I37

I’m thinkin’ of the festival, 3 days of poetry heaven

So on I go, turn on the radio an’ let the country music flow

104-46) First a few drops an’ them more, then it begins to pour

Pouring down an’ as is the norm puddles form

An’ we got to beware of spray an’ drive with care

Through Three Rivers then dread, standin’ traffic ahead

I hear two tones behind an’ find

Fire Truck followin’ me, it’s passed an’ I can see

How bad things look to be

Looks like we’re gonna be here a while could be a long stay

I look at the map and can see no other way

Traffic backin’ up then police find a way to turn us round,

Once more we’re away, oogle maps show me where I need to be

An’ the best way to get to George West

Now not so down in the mouth cos’ from there it’s due South

It’s still raining, ain’t no point in complaining

I know where to go, just go with the traffic flow

An’ depend on my car to get us to journeys end

105-47) Rain still comin’ down in Edinburg town

I’m at Nianna’s she’s not there, I wait a while

She comes. We hug an’ smile

Despite the rain, we’re together again if only for a while

Despite the weather we’re once more together

For the RGVIPF or maybe a meal out and be seen

As Her Most Loyal Prince Consort, escorting His Most Gracious Queen

106-48) Buster an’ Zelda, two new cats introduced an’ produced

Soon we’re playin’ will they understand what I’m sayin,

Soon dinners made an’ eaten, stuffed peppers can’t be beaten

With the cats we interact an’ chat

I write some more, my final score

An’ feel my eyelids complainin’ an’ outside it’s still rainin’

So I’m gonna hit the sack, thinkin’ ‘it’s great to be back’.
