Image: Poster for what has become an annual event, it goes down well.
17.04.26: 87-59) I rise, take my time, no need to rush
Enjoy the mornin’ hush. Shower an’ first thought,
Ring Jojo with a progress report, sit an’ chat about how things are
An’ what a delight, it was last night
How me an’ Bonnie wend down well, Destinations was swell
An’ folks goin’ out of their way to tell us they liked what we had to say
We said “Thanks” and them some info about future events to come
Then I said “I gotta go”, cos’ I need breakfast before I go to KCKM Radio
88-60) Dressed an’ away, it’s a sunny day
Nice mornin’ for a drive, let it come alive. Short hop, then a breakfast stop.
McDonalds seems a good bet, ain’t seen anythin’ else yet
So in I go get my meal, then I’m away once more
But not afore, I see I could have got it cheaper next door
But I ain’t got the blues cos’ I’m thinkin’ some you wind, some you loose
89-61) Time aplenty I’m on the I20 Takin’ it steady, but no delayin’
Radio playin’, An’ I’m there KCKM Radio where
A show I’m gonna do, bin doin’ them since 2022
Laurel says “go” I let it flow without fear
Sayin how great it is to be comin’ back every year
Talk about my roam, life back home
Recite form a book I wrote so people get to know
What happened 15 years ago. Poems nature praisin’ awareness raisin’
Laurel’s means of enquirin’ are so inspirin’ get the best out of the guest
Sadly all to soon, it’s 12 noon. But it’s gone alright
An’ I’m with Bonnie on stage at the Globe tonight
An’ as usual it’s clear, Laurel hopes I’m back again next year
90-62) Bonnie says “Dinners on me, my treat”.
“For what do you wish”, I suggest fish Red Lobster found, to it we’re bound
To our delight, it’s not far from the event tonight
An’ I hear with glee Chief Luis is making us three
We meet, hug, sit an’ wait, decide what we want on our plate
An idea dawns, we all go for triple prawns
We chat about the past, how the present doesn’t last
Our hopes and fears for future years
We’re eatin’ food that takes some beatin’ I find as such there’s too much
But I’m not thwarted, a to go box an’ tomorrows breakfast’s sorted
An’ for a finale there’s three spoons to try, a good slice of key lime pie
91-63) So to The Globe not far, in the car
Perfect way to end the day, poetry followed by a Q & A
Learn more about each anothers score
What they like to write about, how they like to lay it out
Then we say “Goodnight” an’ how it’s been alright
I take Bonnie home then head, back to the motel to lay my head
Go to bed and dream, but not before I’ve had my supper
Fresh Mexican strawberries an’ cream
18.04.26: 92-64) Rise, shower, reflect on last night, it went alright
Last nights to go, microwaving, another saving
Soon It’ll be eaten then I’ll be away
To see what’s to do in Midland on my final day.
93-65) I always make a point of visitin’ Kat while I’m here
Bring her a bit of cheer I always like to say “hi”, before it’s “goodbye”.
So I went and time spent
Chatting sharing memories past, memories that will last
What’s new on the scene, how things have been
Coffee an’ snacks goin’ down well, mornin’ went really swell
So much to talk about, as the memories cane tumblin’ out
Then it was time to go but not shed a tear’
Smilin’ an’ hopin ‘ to meet up again next year
94-66) Drove to Bonnie’s, our intent, to set up this afternoons event
Pack the car set off an’ arrive to find, we’ve left the scones behind
Back we go, they’re found, once more to the venue bound
Get things sorted an’ laid out, all in order, there’s no doubt
An’ all could see which type of scone, went with which type of tea
They’re ready to be tasted, hope nones wasted
Tea poured, ready to be served then I find,
I’ve left my intended poems behind
A call to Kat, they’re not there
I only hope time will tell, I’ve left them at the motel
95-67) I improvised using poems from other collections
Talking about past reflections
Then others recited, all would be delighted, all hopefully all be glad
They enjoyed tea, scones an’ poetry with The Yorkshire Lad
96-68) I recited with meaning and humour
Others with equal intent, poetry an’ song well meant
As always playin’ our part, givin’ it out heart
Enjoyin’ the scones an’ tea, the music an’ poetry
An’ I’m hopin’ time’ll tell, the poems I can’t find are at the motel
97-69) Open mic over, to the motel I’m bound
A look round an’ the book ain’t found
It’s gone I surmise, so I’ll have to improvise
So I change my shirt ready to do some prancin
Cos’ me an’ Bonnie’s goin’ Country Dancin’.
98-70) Chick-a-Fill an’ a bite to eat, then we’re away got it to go,
To the venue, an’ we can eat alfresco
Tuck in, then we can go in, an’ let the dancin’ begin
An’ it’ll be great I suppose if I manage not to tread on anyone’s toes
