0M Salisbury City Centre transformation kicks off as works begin on first sites

The City of Salisbury has partnered with a consortium comprising Buildtec and Catcorp to revitalise Salisbury City Centre, which has been widely considered outdated in its current form.

The plan is to transform this space into one of South Australia’s most vibrant centres.

As of May, stage 1 of the redevelopment will commence including work on sites 1, 2, and 5, which are expected to be completed in a time frame of 18 months to two years.

Site 1 includes new residential housing as well as retail, office, and commercial spaces. A supermarket, additional retail and office space, and multi-deck carpark make up site 2, and 69 new social homes for Junction Housing Thrive Salisbury will be site 5.

Site 1 and 2 are currently fenced for early service relocation works, with the old Len Beadall library set for demolition in May. Construction will begin soon after on site 1 and 2 and construction on site 5 will commence in June.

Representatives told Glam Adelaide the future Salisbury City Centre would create new opportunities to live, work and socialise in the heart of the city, surrounded by what they describe as some of the best amenities in the northern region.

The council notes that this redevelopment is set to deliver opportunities the space has long been missing. Greater variety and more convenience for people to live in or visit the heart of Salisbury. The project has a feel reminiscent of a “15-minute city”, where residents can access more of what they need within 15 minutes of home.

Upon completion, the redevelopment will generate increased local customers and foot traffic through more than 200 new dwellings and an expanded retail offering, building on Salisbury City Centre’s existing strengths, including all major supermarkets and Big W at Parabanks Shopping Centre, Hoyts Cinemas, and the unique shops and restaurants along John Street.

City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM said “The redevelopment will completely reshape our city and boost the local economy, attracting new businesses, growing existing businesses and creating hundreds of local jobs.”

“People will be able to live right in the City Centre – surrounded by some of the best amenities in the north including an array of shops, services and restaurants – bringing the city to life.”
