Young sailors reach Gold Fleet in Morocco

The UAE sailing team have qualified for the Gold Fleet at the Optimist World Championship in Tangier, Morocco, after a strong start to the regatta.

The Gold Fleet is reserved for the leading 60 sailors from the opening stage. This year’s championship has brought together 293 competitors from 73 countries, making qualification a significant step for the UAE squad.

The result keeps the UAE in the top group heading into the next phase of racing, where the margins will tighten and positions can change quickly.

There are still seven races to sail. The UAE team will now try to build on their early results and improve their overall standing against the strongest Optimist sailors in the event.

The Optimist class is one of the main entry points into competitive international sailing, and results at this level are often seen as a useful marker for future national teams.
