There was a time when sportswear was purely practical. Today, however, the world’s biggest athletes are just as likely to be discussed for what they wear off the field as what they do on it. It’s a fact few embody better than Erling Haaland – and his enviable collection of designer handbags.
The Norwegian footballer who is currently dominating the FIFA Men’s World Cup (and who you might also know from playing on the Manchester City team) has amassed one of the most impressive handbag collections, with rare Hermès pieces, Louis Vuitton travel bags and even Chanel luggage making regular appearances in his rotation. We, like the rest of the world have, understandably, taken notice.
What bags does Erling Haaland own?
Quite a few. At the heart of Haaland’s collection is Hermès. While many have referred to his bags as Birkins, several are actually Haut à Courroies (HAC) styles — the taller, more structured silhouette that predates the Birkin.
Among the most notable is a limited-edition Multipockets HAC 50, a highly collectible design featuring oversized exterior pockets and supple Togo leather. He’s also been spotted carrying the coveted Endless Road HAC 50, a patchwork leather style depicting a winding mountain landscape that has become one of the maison’s most sought-after travel bags.
His Hermès collection also includes (at least, from what we’ve seen) a black Kelly 35, a Cargo HAC, a HAC Rock and several additional HAC styles in different leathers and colourways.
Haaland also owns Louis Vuitton’s Comics Keepall Bandoulière 50 and Landscape Keepall, alongside a Chanel Métiers d’art suitcase. a sky-blue Goyard Jouvence toiletry case, and a Goyard Satolas GM rolling suitcase. No big deal.
His personal style is as confident as his game
While most fans are probably more accustomed to seeing Haaland in uniform, his off-duty wardrobe is worth taking note of. It’s not exactly surprising that he’s well dressed, although (excluding his accessories) he rearely leans into the flashiness that might typically be associated with footballers.
A few scrolls on Instagram and you’ll see Haaland favours denim (and isn’t afraid of a Canadian tuxedo), relaxed tailoring, and comfortable knits, usually in easy-wearing neutrals – no loud logos in sight. We suppose it makes sense: if you have a a handbag collection like his, it really does the work for you.
He’s a Snapchat afficonado
It might seem at odds with a wardrobe filled with rare Hermès bags and designer luggage, but Haaland’s online persona is refreshingly unserious. We suppose it’s not totally surprising, considering he is only 25.
He’s amassed something of a following on Snapchat thanks to his candidness – tongue-in-cheek responses to Q&As, a liberal use of filters, and a general refusal to take himself too seriously. A side of the striker that feels worlds away from the intimidating figure opponents face on the pitch.
