Severe weather warning issued for damaging winds across parts of SA

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds across parts of South Australia, with residents in affected areas urged to prepare their homes and stay across the latest advice.

The warning applies to people in Kangaroo Island and parts of the Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and Lower South East districts.

Issued at 10:48am on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the warning comes as a trough is forecast to graze the south of the state overnight, followed by a deep low pressure system expected to pass to the south later on Thursday.

Damaging wind gusts of around 90km/h are possible with showers from around midnight tonight across parts of the Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke and Fleurieu Peninsulas, Kangaroo Island and coastal parts of the Lower South East. These winds are expected to ease during Thursday morning.

The Bureau has also warned that damaging southwesterly winds averaging 50 to 65km/h, with peak gusts of around 100km/h, are likely over the Lower South East coast during Thursday evening, before easing later on Friday morning.

Locations that may be affected include Kingscote, Warooka, Robe and Millicent.

Residents in affected areas are advised to move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure or put away loose items around the property, and stay indoors away from windows while conditions are severe.

The SES also advises people to check gutters, downpipes and drains, trim branches that could fall on homes or property, and ensure insurance policies are current and cover storm damage.

People are encouraged to monitor the latest warnings and advice from the Bureau of Meteorology and the SES as the weather system moves across the state.

For emergency SES storm or flood assistance, call 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).
