Eagles
The Eagles had a game of two different halves against the Rams. While things looked great in the first half, everything changed (when the fire nation attacked) in the second half leading to a double-digit lead blown in the fourth quarter. The game left a very sour taste in mouths of fans, leaving them questioning how good the team is and the future of the season. We’ll breakdown the game and see how legit some of these concerns are for fans.
The first half was genuinely great to watch. The Eagles started the game getting their first turnover and then got their second one to end the half. Both turnovers led to Eagles points. Both turnovers came from players that have been struggling this year in Cooper Dejean and Andrew Mukuba. These are things good teams do, points off turnovers and struggling players stepping up. Lack of turnovers was a real trend that was starting to show up. You hope that now the seal is broken, the defense can continue to make plays for an offense that can’t find its footing.
Lack of turnover concerns: lower.
The defense is also something fans have been worried about. Yes, it’s not great they gave up a ten-point lead in the 4th quarter. They also have a tackling issue. That said, they still have done their best to bail out an offense that is almost non-existent in the second half of games. If the offense could start controlling the ball better, the defense wouldn’t be forced into late game situations solely resting on them. One offensive player was doing his best last Sunday but others need to rise to the occasion.
Defense concerns: low but trending up.
Speaking of players stepping up, Darius Cooper had a phenomenal performance in the absence of Devonta Smith. Cooper hauled in both touchdowns for the Eagles and the first one would be a career highlight. This helped the Eagles take a 20-10 lead going into halftime. It is strange to see that the Eagles have a lot of talent at receiver after it being our one of the biggest question marks going into it.
Eagles Receivers concerns: surprisingly low.
Unfortunately the rest of the offense looked bad especially in the second half. They had 67 total yards of offense. Not great! I put a lot of the onus on the offensive line. I don’t want to pile on one specific player too much so I’ll let the clip below do it for me. Cam Jurgens is not playing like himself or even like an average starting caliber guard nor center this season. When a lineman can’t consistently make blocks, it can derail an entire offense. Be it through run lanes not opening up, immediate pressure on the quarterback so he can’t make a throw down field, or drive-killing penalties, it’s all there for Jurgens.
Cam Jurgens concerns: high.
This is 16 clips of Cam Jurgens hurting the offense.
You can talk about Hurts, Mannion, the weather, etc., but nothing destroys the offense more than Cam Jurgens right now.
THIS IS ALL FROM 1 GAME. You can’t defend this. It’s not possible.#Eagles pic.twitter.com/vfWhQXnMfl

The offense can’t seem to find its place in general. Are they a run-first offense? Do they let Jalen Hurts be a field general and work his way down the field? Should they utilize big plays to keep the defense on their back foot? Of course great offenses can do a little bit of everything. I can’t really see what this team is trying to accomplish on any level. You hope that part of this is due to the inconsistency of health for the Eagles. Mark the offense down as a concern, especially when you look to the next point.
Eagles offense as a unit concern: high and getting higher. Update: this was first submitted about 10 minutes before the Lane Johnson news dropped. Can’t make that up for how bad of luck that is to see. Anyway here’s the post and going to notch that concern up to very high.
We also have to look at the elephant in the room, injuries. Injuries happen to every team. While every team has to go through them, when they happen and what players/positions they happen to will affect every team differently. Also you don’t want to be the guy making the injury excuse. If you wanted to hypothetically be that guy, the Eagles have a good case for it.
Complaining about injuries concern: getting higher.
Lane Johnson, Zach Baun, Devonte Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Landon Dickerson all missed the game. Then to add insult to injury, the Eagles lost Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, Quinyon Mitchell, Jonathan Greenard, and Cam Jurgens during or shortly after the Rams game. Those are a lot of starting players at key positions on the field. The full list of players just seems crazy to look at in totality.
Injuries derailing the team concern: high.
This is nuts:
DeVonta Smith (hamstring)
Dallas Goedert (knee)
Lane Johnson (personal)
Saquon Barkley (hamstring)
Tank Bigsby (abdomen)
Cam Jurgens (concussion)
Zack Baun (concussion)
Quinyon Mitchell (knee)
Jonathan Greenard (ankle)
Marcus Epps (groin)
Hollywood Brown (ankle)…

This won’t be all doom and gloom. There are still some bright spots you can look to for this team. The most important one for me is that while things look hopeless, they’re still .500 at 2-2. There’s teams out there still looking for just a first win. There’s plenty of season left for this team. I’d much rather struggle during the beginning stretch of the season than the end. Last year we saw the Eagles limp into the playoffs before a disappointing round 1 loss. I also am, unfortunately, an optimist. Call me crazy but I still remember a team that had the most injuries in the league and still won the Super Bowl. This is also an excuse to end on the good vibes of Super Bowl 52.
Concern for the future: medium.
The next matchup is a London game versus the Jaguars. The London games are always a little bizarre. While it’s great to wake up with football, it also gives the chance that your whole day is ruined from the start. I say you go out there, open the gate of the feral gods, and see what happens. Maybe a stress-free style will help them. No better place to try that out than in another country. Still the season goes on they’ll play at least 13 more games.
Jaguars game concerns: medium.
