One was shut down after inspectors found “items of sexual nature,” police say.
Four bodyworks establishments in Watertown have been shut down after city inspections found licensing and occupancy violations, authorities said.
Thai Body Spa, located at 12 Belmont St., was closed July 21 due to possessing “items of sexual nature” and failing to have a Certificate of Occupancy and bodywork permit, the Watertown Police Department said. The spa did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Three other bodywork establishments were also ordered to close for failing to provide required certifications, police said. Authorities declined to identify those businesses.
The city defines bodywork establishments as businesses that provide services such as reflexology, Asian bodywork, acupressure, massages, and mind-body-soul therapy.
Police said the four businesses will reopen after meeting the city’s required rules and regulations and will be subject to an additional inspection.
The Watertown Public Health Department conducted the investigation in conjunction with the Watertown Police Department, the Watertown Zoning & Code Enforcement Team, Inspectional Services and the FBI Boston’s Child Exploitation – Human Trafficking Task Force. Police said the FBI assists with support services for employees during inspections as part of a “victim-centered approach.”
