If you love the 4th quarter of sports — then you probably love the Villanova Wildcats. On the hardwood — who can forget the pass from Ryan Arcidiacono to Kris Jenkins with 4.7 seconds left and the buzzer-beater that brought Villanova it’s first National Championship since 1985. Or two years later — when Donte DiVincenzo scorched the Michigan Wolverines for 31 points for yet another Championship on Lancaster Avenue. Or the 2009 NCAA Tournament — when Scottie Reynolds hit a runner to beat Pitt with 0.5 seconds remaining in the Elite Eight.

On Saturday on the football field— the Wildcats brought 4th quarter magic yet again. Villanova (4–4) jumped out to a 21–0 first half advantage only to have Lehigh (6–2) mount a furious comeback. With just over eight minutes remaining — Villanova still held a 21–18 advantage — and then added a field goal.

With only sixteen seconds left — Lehigh had three shots all within the two-yard line. After two incompletions — Lehigh quarterback Derek Morgan was sacked to end the game. Villanova has now beaten Lehigh for the second consecutive game.

Ja’briel Mace rushed for 91 yards on 17 rushes and one touchdown. Pat McQuaide was 15/25 for 194 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Garrett Roland had 13 tackles for the Wildcats.

As it turns out — some of those 4th quarter magical moments may be fewer at least locally as Villanova announces that it will leave the Big 5 Tournament at the end of the 2026–2027 season.

The move will remove Villanova from the City Series for the first time since 1955.
